Kenai River Sportfishing Association (KRSA)
About KRSA

World renowned for its Chinook, coho, sockeye and pink salmon, as well as Dolly Varden and rainbow trout, the Kenai River is Alaska's most popular sport fishery and home to some of the best angling in the world.

Kenai River Sportfishing Association (KRSA) is one of Alaska's most recognizable and effective fishery conservation organizations. We bring sport anglers and conservationists together to protect and preserve the greatest sportfishing river in the world --- the Kenai.

KRSA has four main program areas: Habitat, Fisheries Management, Research and Education.

Habitat

Habitat conservation and restoration to maintain and improve the Kenai River watershed for sustainable fisheries.

Each year, we allocate and leverage thousands of dollars for the protection and restoration of critical fish habitat. Success stories on the Kenai include the Fish Habitat Cost Share program and the Kenai River Center. KRSA also supports habitat projects that target responsible angler access for boat and bank angling activities.

Fisheries Management

Promotion of predictable and meaningful sport and personal use fishing opportunity.

One of KRSA's major roles on behalf of its membership is to monitor and have input on fisheries management decisions. At local, state and federal regulatory levels, KRSA advocates for sustainable fisheries and the public's fishery rights. Conservation comes first, then allocations among user groups. Decisions made by regulatory bodies have significant impact on all users of our fisheries resources.

Research

Fishery, economic and conservation research to advance information for management of sustainable fisheries.

KRSA has funded regional strategic planning efforts to prioritize important projects for fisheries research, habitat research and habitat restoration. Such plans provide a funding template so that high priority research and on-the-ground project needs are identified and ranked accordingly. Based on results of the strategic planning efforts, we work in close cooperation with state and national regulatory bodies to secure and leverage funding for studies that help managers to make scientific-based decisions concerning the Kenai River Fishery.

Education

Public education, scholarships and outreach to promote stewardship of fisheries resources.

KRSA is committed to education. KRSA provides for public education, scholarships and outreach to promote stewardship of fisheries resources. Education is accomplished through a variety of KRSA programs and support for community-based education partnerships.

Built upon a conservation model that coordinates local, state and federal agencies, the Kenai River is recognized as one of the best-managed waterways in the world.

Through conservation efforts in habitat, fisheries management, research and education, KRSA works tirelessly on behalf of Alaska's recreational fisheries to make certain their long-term sustainability in this unique environment.

Since its inception, KRSA has invested millions in the Kenai River watershed and has worked with its partners to leverage millions more. In 2002, KRSA received the Conservation Service Award, the U.S. Department of Interior's highest recognition for conservation work in America.
